Chronic Pain, Low Energy, Wrinkles: Oxidative stress

Chronic Pain, Low Energy, Wrinkles: Oxidative stress

There’s days, especially after a massive cheat day, or when I don’t get enough sleep, or I have a stressful week where my body just doesn’t feel right.

I feel swollen, tired, like a colds coming on and my body hurts all the time.

Why is that…?

What do oxidants do?

Cellular Damage:

Oxidants can damage cells, including proteins, DNA, and cell membranes. Think of them like tiny "bullies" causing trouble in your cells.

Aging:

Over time, the accumulated damage from oxidants is believed to contribute to the aging process. It's like wear and tear on your body.

Weight Loss:

There's a connection between oxidants and inflammation. Chronic inflammation can interfere with metabolism and might make it harder to lose weight.

Chronic Inflammation:

If you have ongoing inflammation, it might mean your body has an excess of oxidants.

Fatigue and Weakness:

Feeling tired all the time?

Oxidants could be causing cellular damage and affecting your energy levels.

Joint Pain:

Persistent joint pain might be a sign of an imbalance between oxidants and antioxidants, often linked to oxidative stress.

Skin Issues:

Wrinkles and fine lines could be connected to too many oxidants, though other factors can contribute.

Susceptibility to Illness:

Frequent illnesses? A weakened immune system influenced by oxidants might be the culprit.

Clinical ways to Measuring Oxidative Stress:

Special tests can check for biomarkers in your blood or urine, indicating higher oxidant levels. Your doctor may order these if needed.

Preventing Oxidant Trouble:

Antioxidants:

Think of antioxidants as superheroes defending your body. They neutralize oxidants, like vitamins C and E or minerals such as selenium.

Healthy Diet:

Eat lots of fruits, veggies, and whole foods. Picture a vibrant plate – that's your body's antioxidant feast!

Exercise:

Regular physical activity is like a workout for your cellular defense. It helps your body produce its own antioxidants.

Adequate Sleep:

Sleep lets your body repair and deal with oxidative damage. It's like giving your cells a good night's rest.

Avoiding Smoking and Excessive Alcohol:

Smoking and too much alcohol boost oxidant production. Skip these habits to keep your cells out of unnecessary trouble.

So, the next time you feel that unexplained fatigue, notice those nagging joint pains, or catch a glimpse of those fine lines, remember – oxidative stress might be at play.

But fear not! By embracing a diet rich in antioxidants, staying active, ensuring ample sleep, and steering clear of harmful habits, you can empower your body to fend off these tiny "bullies." Keep your cells happy and healthy, and let the superheroes of antioxidants be your allies in the journey to a vibrant and energized life.
